Homomorphisms of higher categories
We describe a construction that to each algebraically specified notion of higher-dimensional category associates a notion of homomorphism which preserves the categorical structure only up to weakly invertible higher cells. The construction is such that these homomorphisms admit a strictly associative and unital composition. We give two applications of this construction. The first is to tricateg...
متن کاملCriteria for existence of semigroup homomorphisms and projective rank functions
Suppose A, S, and T are semigroups, e: A → S and f : A → T semigroup homomorphisms, and X a generating set for S. We assume (1) that every element of S divides some element of e(A), (2) that T is cancellative, (3) that T is power-cancellative (i.e, xd = yd ⇒ x = y for d > 0), and (4) a further technical condition, which in particular holds if T admits a semigroup ordering with the order-type of...
متن کاملComplex Analysis: A Brief Tour into Higher Dimensions
1. INTRODUCTION. Why is it that most graduate students of mathematics (and many undergraduates as well) are exposed to complex analysis in one variable, yet only a small minority of students or, for that matter, professional mathematicians ever learn even the most basic corresponding theory in several variables? Think about it another way: Could anyone seriously argue that it might be sufficien...
متن کاملClifford Homomorphisms and Higher Spin Dirac Operators
We present a generalization of the Clifford action for other representations spaces of Spin(n), which is called the Clifford homomorphism. Their properties extend to the ones for the higher spin Dirac operators on spin manifolds. In particular, we have general Bochner identities for them, and an eigenvalue estimate of a Laplace type operator on any associated bundle.
متن کاملAsymptotic homomorphisms into the Calkin algebra ∗
Let A be a separable C∗-algebra and let B be a stable C∗-algebra with a strictly positive element. We consider the (semi)group Ext(A,B) (resp. Ext(A,B)) of homotopy classes of asymptotic (resp. of genuine) homomorphisms from A to the corona algebra M(B)/B and the natural map i : Ext(A,B) −→ Ext(A,B). We show that if A is a suspension then Ext(A,B) coincides with E-theory of Connes and Higson an...
